Nordic Creation Research Conference 2024: "A creationist perspective on the origin of diversity in biological life", Oct 17-18, 2024

The First Nordic Creation Research Conference is a collaboration between the Genesis Society and Scandinavian School of Theology in Uppsala. We are planning this conference as the first of its kind, where creation organizations from different Nordic countries will take turns hosting. This year's conference will primarily focus on the advancements in modern genetics regarding species boundaries and mechanisms of speciation.

Recordings

25 April 2025: We are very happy to announce that all videos from the Nordic Creation Research Conference 2024, which had the theme "A creationist perspective on the origin of diversity in biological life", are now published!

The videos are available on a special YouTube channel: @nordic-creation-research, as they are a bit more technical than Genesis' other material. (Note, if you are interested in a little more technical content, make sure to subscribe to that channel as well, so as not to miss any new content in the future).

Below are some short comments on the videos in theme order, i.e. in a sorting that builds on each other somewhat progressively. This starts with four videos that are most closely related to the conference theme of the origin of variation in nature:

1. Review of Created Kinds and Baraminology - Ola Hössjer who presents an overview of the field.
2. Mendelian Speciation and the Origin of Species - Dr. Nigel Crompton who also presents the classic Mendelian mechanisms that are capable of variation.
3. Organismal Variation in a Post-Genesis World in the Light of Epigenetics - Tomi Aalto where additional mechanisms from epigenetics are added.
4. Variation Inducing Genetic Elements: A new “old” look at Transposable and transposed Elements - Dr. Peter Borger where the variation mechanisms are finally supplemented with so-called "transposable elements", DNA sequences that can move around the genome.

Then follow three lectures that are somewhat more tangentially connected to the theme, but still interesting in their own way:

5. Some observations concerning the thermodynamic implications of the endergonic bonds in living systems - Prof. Andy McIntosh who adds an additional dimension of complexity and difficulty for biological systems to have arisen spontaneously, based on the fact that their energy efficiency is astonishingly close to the theoretical maximum.
6. Review: Created diversity in life's light harvesting systems - Dr. Boris Schmidtgall who goes into the extremely complex and advanced mechanics of living on light energy, in biological systems.
7. A new theory of how God created the Earth - Prof. Frank Karlsen who gives a more hypothesis-generating look ahead at how research should be organized to find out in more detail how creation must have happened, in terms of different dependencies that exist between different ecosystems, etc.

Transportation

From abroad, the easiest way of getting to the conference venue is by flight to Copenhagen airport, and then by train from Copenhagen airport to Malmö. After about 22 minutes, depart from the train at station Triangeln. This is the station in Malmö closest to the Immanuel Church.

Lodging

Rooms for the speakers will be booked at Hotel N Hostel Malmö City, located about 800 meters from the Immanuel Church. Welcome to book at this hotel/hostel also.
